Argon & Co’s UK team worked with three charities for its annual volunteering day. The team spent the day supporting the wider community, focusing on the elderly, vulnerable, and the environment:
Age UK is a local charity providing essential support to those over 50 in the Lewisham and Southwark area. Age UK supports the elderly population, encourages them to socialise , and aims to improve the lives of older people, especially those who are vulnerable and frail or facing common challenges with care, illness, isolation, and finance.
Our team had the pleasure of spending the day supporting Age UK in their daily activities including gardening, exercise classes, karaoke and bingo while getting to know Age UK’s members.
Groundwork was started to address fly-tipping and now supports residents in the area experiencing various challenges. The charity offers free furniture packages for people in emergency housing. The refurbished furniture is also sold at affordable prices to the community and reinvested into the workshop, supporting new entrants to the workplace with opportunities.
The Argon & Co team supported the community centre by getting involved in decorating and re-upholstering furniture as well as gardening and helping to maintain the site.
Kentish Town Farm is the UK’s first city farm founded in 1972. The charity helps people connect with animals, nature and the environment through outdoor therapy and education for all, especially children and adults with special needs.
At the farm, our team spent the day gardening, painting, clearing equipment and maintaining the farm and barns, as well as tending to, – and taking photos of – the animals!
A big thank you to Age UK, Groundwork and Kentish Town Farm, for giving us an insight into these wonderful charities and the work that they do.
