Last week, we hosted our latest Coffee Connect networking event, featuring an engaging discussion centred on the theme of ‘what it really means to be strategic.’

  • Direction over perfection – Strategy is about setting clear direction, even if the destination shifts along the way. Setting a direction and having a plan creates alignment, focus, and momentum. Without this, you’re just reacting
  • Pivot with purpose – In a fast-paced world, change is inevitable, so make it part of the plan. Build in regular reviews to assess whether the strategy still fits the reality, and be brave enough to act when it doesn’t
  • Empower strategic thinking – Great strategies live and breathe through people. Build your team’s capacity and capability to think strategically and create an environment of psychological safety so ideas can be challenged, tested, and refined without fear
  • Look beyond your walls – Fresh thinking comes from beyond your own walls. Look to other industries for parallels and solutions as many challenges are shared, and a new perspective can unlock different approaches
  • Keep it simple – If you can’t explain your strategy on a single page, it’s too complicated. The simpler it is, the easier it is to remember, communicate, and act on
