CeMAT Australia 2025, recently held at Sydney Olympic Park, once again proved itself as the leading event for the intralogistics, supply chain, and materials handling industries in Australia & New Zealand. Bringing together global innovators, technology providers, and logistics professionals, the event offered a mix of live demonstrations, exhibits, and interesting discussions. Over three immersive days, attendees delved into the latest advancements in automation, robotics, AI, and data-driven solutions, exploring the future landscape of warehousing and distribution.
The team here at Argon & Co kicked off day one of CeMAT by hosting a workshop “Optimising your Warehouse in an unoptimised World.” The session attracted a cross-section of the logistics community, combining both collective industry knowledge and professional networks. The workshop offered experience-based guidance on how to make sense of exciting technologies like AI in warehousing. Not through fancy buzzwords, but through proven strategic approaches. A key message delivered was the importance of focus in transformation efforts: “Pick one high-impact opportunity; prove value, then scale.”
Attendees were challenged to shift their mindset from automating motion to automating thought, capturing this with the statement, “We’ve spent decades automating movement; now it’s time to automate thinking.” The session emphasised that the real power of AI lies in replacing rigid, reactive rules with adaptive intelligence, “unlocking smarter, faster decisions even in imperfect conditions.” This resonated with operational leaders dealing with uncertainty and volatility in their warehouse environments and operation overall. Another shared insight was the reminder about the pace of change in the industry: “Things happen slower than you think, then faster than you expect”, a reflection of how early experimentation with AI, all be it on smaller scale, suddenly tips into larger transformative results.

Automated container unloading systems drew strong interest for their ability to safely and quickly remove goods from shipping containers with minimal manual effort. Rack-climbing Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) also stood out, offering smart, vertical movement for high-density storage and retrieval, ideal for space-constrained facilities.
Equally impressive were advanced automated packaging machines, capable of sizing, packing, sealing, and labelling at high speed. These systems reduce labour, cut waste, and improve order accuracy. From robotics to modular solutions, the technologies on display reflected a clear shift toward smarter, scalable automation across the supply chain.
