We’re still analyzing this past retail peak season, both what happened in the market as well as with clients. In this week’s supply chain & logistics recap, we’ve see that retail and especially eCommerce sales are up, some chain store closings are up (replaced by eCommerce sales in the same companies).
- Yesterday Walmart confirmed it is closing a few dozen stores in the U.S. and moving employees to Walmart stores when possible, although reports we’ve read say that doors on some were locked when employees showed up for work. They also are raising salaries by a dollar, following Target, who says by 2020 they’ll be up to $15/hour.
- eCommerce sites are having to combat another form of fraud, called “journey hijacking.” Consumers are being redirected from the sites they are targeted and pointed to other sites. The malware is designed to bypass retailers’ web security tools, which allows the ads to hide in plain sight. Only an infected site visitor can see them. On this article on Ad Exchanger, retailers are just now working with startup companies to combat the issue.
