There’s no shortage of supply chain news for this week for us to share, even though we’re just about into full swing of Summer and people are thinking swimming pools, BBQs and vacation. We hope if you are having some fun this Summer, you stay safe!

  • Supermarket News reports that German discount grocer Aldi is expanding by 900 stores in a release this past Monday. CEO Jason Hart said, “We pioneered a grocery model built around value, convenience, quality and selection and now Aldi is one of America’s favorite and fastest growing retailers,” said Hart. “We’re growing at a time when other retailers are struggling. We are giving our customers what they want, which is more organic produce, antibiotic-free meats and fresh healthier options across the store, all at unmatched prices up to 50% lower than traditional grocery stores.” It’s reported this is a $3.4 billion investment in the U.S. expansion.
  • What happens if Ikea and Amazon work together? As reported by Bill Murphy, Jr. wrote for Inc. Magazine there are many avenues for Ikea to use (he also pays homage to Pets.com, remember them?) Amazon and noted in the article that Ikea products are already on Amazon for sale.
  • What’s the job market in manufacturing, overall? U.S. News & World Report has shared that overall we’ve had hiring surges in the U.S. but there is still room for growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistic’s JOLT report (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary) released last week reported almost 5.3 million employees were hired across the U.S. economy recently.
