During a recent regular company meeting this week, it was noted that this year started fast. There was no easing into 2019!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14632\" src=\"https:\/\/www.argonandco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/steve-and-robot-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"644\" height=\"493\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We write a lot about <a href=\"https:\/\/crimsonandco.info\/supply-chain-and-logistics-recaps\/supply-chain-logistics-recap-75\/\">robots and automation&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As always, we are educating ourselves on the latest trends and the trends that are here to stay. It&#8217;s no surprise partner Steve Mulaik in front of a 2000-era, DARPA-funded, army rescue robot at Vecna Robotics named Bear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s always about technology: track and trace tote service<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You know those reusable totes and bins companies have spent years getting into their organizations? Now, they can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychain247.com\/article\/add_track_and_trace_service_to_your_totes\/news\">add track-and-trace service<\/a> to them. In this article on <em>Supply Chain 24\/7<\/em>, \u201cWe\u2019ve put <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychain247.com\/topic\/tag\/RFID\">radio-frequency identification (RFID)<\/a> tags and bar code labels on totes for years, which are great for tracking assets within the four walls,\u201d explains<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/steve-juckem-88204231\/\" rel=\"noopener\"> Steve Juckem<\/a>, senior product manager for track and trace technology at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbiscorporation.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ORBIS<\/a>. \u201cNow, other technologies are shrinking, have better battery life and are less expensive, and we see more opportunities for GPS devices and computer vision technologies to be implemented for asset tracking outside the four walls.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How did Walmart add drivers amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2018\/09\/is-america-facing-a-labor-shortage\/570649\/\">reported <\/a>labor shortage?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\" data-reactid=\"39\"><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/walmart-successfully-recruited-truck-drivers-122937062.html?mod=djemlogistics_h\">Yahoo Finance reports that this<\/a> past fall Walmart began giving $1,500 referral bonuses, hoping social media would connect with the younger generation, tightening the application time by over half, and changing hiring tactics with events. The reported, &#8220;A first-year driver can expect to make $86,000 driving for Walmart, or the equivalent of $0.87 per mile. The retailer also offers quarterly safe driving bonuses, benefits, and doesn&#8217;t make its drivers load or unload freight.
