Here&#8217;s an interesting (and short) read about the intricacies that suppliers\/vendors in the USA face for Independence Day celebrations across the United States. The <a href=\"https:\/\/nrf.com\/media\/press-releases\/hump-day-fourth-of-july-slows-down-consumer-celebrations-and-spending-totals\">National Retail Federation<\/a> said $6.9 billion would be spent on food. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supplychain247.com\/article\/usa_4th_of_july_celebrations_supply_chain_complexities\/news\">Supply Chain 24\/7 reports some interesting facts<\/a> like:\n<ul>\n<li>9 out of 10 adults will celebrate<\/li>\n<li>31 million will be traveling<\/li>\n<li>62% of people are planning a cookout or picnic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>RFID Sensors<\/strong>? If you like keeping an eye on advances in technology that have been around, this report might be of interest. <a href=\"http:\/\/Recently, researchers have been experimenting with ways to turn passive RFID tags into sensors that can operate over long stretches of time without the need for batteries or replacements. These efforts have typically focused on manipulating a tag\u2019s antenna, engineering it in such a way that its electrical properties change in response to certain stimuli in the environment. As a result, an antenna should reflect radio waves back to a reader at a characteristically different frequency or signal-strength, indicating that a certain stimuli has been detected. For instance, Sarma\u2019s group previously designed an RFID tag-antenna that changes the way it transmits radio waves in response to moisture content in the soil. The team also fabricated an antenna to sense signs of anemia in blood flowing across an RFID tag. But Kantareddy says there are drawbacks to such antenna-centric designs, the main one being \u201cmultipath interference,\u201d a confounding effect in which radio waves, even from a single source such as an RFID reader or antenna, can reflect off multiple surfaces.\">MIT News reported last month that researchers have been working on turning &#8220;passive RFID tags into sensors&#8221;<\/a> that can be used over long periods of time without batteries or charging. For example, &#8220;RFID tag-antenna that changes the way it transmits radio waves in response to moisture content in the soil. The team also fabricated an antenna to sense signs of anemia in blood flowing across an RFID tag.&#8221; This means it could be used in a multitude of ways including checking patient glucose levels and carbon monoxide detecting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Covenant to Acquire Landair Holdings <\/strong>of Greeneville, Tennessee. Covenant Transportation said Thursday, July 5, they were set to acquire Landair Holdings. The cost was reported to be $83 million in cash and Covenant assumes $15.5 million in their debt. FreightWaves and Yahoo reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/covenant-goes-deep-logistics-business-180723019.html\">Landair&#8217;s &#8220;dedicated and logistics&#8221; aspects were at the &#8220;center of Covenant&#8217;s prepared statements on the acquisition<\/a>.
