In our age of technology, there will likely be <a href=\"https:\/\/sourcingjournalonline.com\/digital-disruption-will-cause-waves-container-shipping\/\">&#8220;digital disruption&#8221; causing delays.<\/a>\u00a0Sourcing \u00a0Journals Online reports, &#8220;The Digital Age\u2013new technologies, big data and the Internet of Things\u2013will help reinvent the container shipping industry in coming decades. A new study from <a href=\"https:\/\/sourcingjournalonline.com\/mckinsey-cpo-survey-digitalize-die\/\">McKinsey<\/a>, \u201cContainer Shipping: The Next 50 Years,\u201d recommends that shipping companies should invest in digital technologies to differentiate their products, disintermediation of value chains, improve customer service, raise productivity and cut costs. &#8216;The risk is that tech giants and digital disruptors will capture most of the value from customer relationships by moving faster than incumbents,\u201d the study said.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>City of Las Vegas worked on an experimental driverless electric-powered shuttle bus in partnership with the AAA of Northern California,\u00a0Nevada\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Utah and the transport company Keolis. So it started last week and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jimgorzelany\/2017\/11\/08\/las-vegas-lets-it-ride-with-self-driving-shuttle-service\/#6acf9101748f\">\u00a0crashed in it&#8217;s first hour of service<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>There has been a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/mymaritimeblog.wordpress.com\/2017\/11\/08\/the-megamax-24-container-ship\/\">talk about container shipping <\/a>and the size of them. This blog writer is reporting that the industry might be saying large container ships &#8220;shouldn&#8217;t&#8221; be built, that doesn&#8217;t mean they aren&#8217;t being built.\u00a0\u00a0the trend is continuing. I\u2019ve maintained all along that the cost savings just can\u2019t be ignored, and big ships will continue, maybe getting even bigger. Now we see there\u2019s not a reversal yet, despite the academics. These new ships will be in the range of 24000 containers.\u00a0 Mike Wackett\u2019s article does a good job of examining the tradeoffs and the actual geometry and stacking of the containers that\u2019s contemplated.
