If this is something you are interested in, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/alerts\/answer\/4815696?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">set up a Google alert<\/a> because lots of information from the federal government is said to be announced this week.<\/p>\n<p>I. The federal government is getting prepared to issue rules for self-driving vehicles. Jeff Zients, the director of the National Economic Council, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2016\/09\/19\/494648888\/feds-to-set-rules-on-self-driving-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told reporters<\/a>, \u201cwe&#8217;re envisioning a future when you can take your hands off the wheel and the wheel out of the car and where your commute becomes productive or restful rather than frustrating or exhausting.\u201d The Department of Transportation will issue its Federal Automated Vehicle Policy this week. (You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/09\/20\/494684730\/transportation-officials-to-issue-rules-for-self-driving-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">listen to an interview<\/a> on NPR about this topic.)<\/p>\n<p>II. <a href=\"http:\/\/pressoffice.mg.co.za\/barloworldlogistics\/PressRelease.php?StoryID=270190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barloworld Logistics<\/a> is sharing a fantastic read about women in the logistics industry. Barloworld has culled the data and believes, \u201cimproving the proportion of women leads to higher financial returns for logistics companies.\u201d Lots to digest in this piece &#8211; specifically when it comes to best ways to incorporate diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>III. Earlier this month, cloud-based transportation management systems (TMS) provider MercuryGate International Inc. and Class I railroad carrier CSX Transportation Intermodal\u2019s announced a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.logisticsmgmt.com\/article\/mercurygate_and_csx_announce_intermodal_technology_partnership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partnership centering around RailPlus<\/a>, CSX\u2019s intermodal door-to-door offering. It&#8217;s exciting to hear about railways using cloud-based technology!<\/p>\n<p>IV. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2015\/08\/05\/big-data-supply-chain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fortune<\/a><\/em> has a piece about logistics software that is an excellent profile of several supply chain company founders: Dr. Jeff Karrenbauer, co-founder and president of the supply chain consultancy INSIGHT and Dr. Victor Allis, mathematician and head of the supply chain analytics firm Quintiq.
