On June 24th Chris Keller, Partner, Argon & Co was invited as Sophus’ guest in a webinar discussion; AI in Supply Chain Design and Optimization: Hype vs. Reality.
Chris joined moderator Bob Ferrari, Managing Director, The Ferrari Consulting & Research Group and Supply Chain Matters, and Sophus CEO Raphael Yue about what AI in supply chain network design.
The panel focused on why supply chain network design and optimization are becoming more critical, how traditional approaches of the past few years are evolving, and how excessive time spent on repetitive data preparation (often up to 80 percent of a modeler’s effort) is driving the need for better tools and continuous, always-on assessment. They emphasized that network design is shifting from occasional strategic projects to an ongoing capability that augments existing advanced planning systems.
The discussion then turned to the practical role of advanced AI in supply chain network design—where it can already add real value in analysis and simulation, and how it applies to both large and smaller enterprises with complex supply chains. Panelists explored what “human in the loop” should look like in these environments and outlined realistic starting points for AI-enabled, end-to-end network analysis and decision-making, including expanding the scope of integrated business planning.
